BLUE DAYS Gift and the 27th list

I have a theory. This has something to do with what M told me once. That for me to get my period I have to have my hormones in a particular range so that I would get blue days. And it required exercises that have to be done. But I have no time to exercise because I am a work or in bed these days. But I found that something else made me get my blue days.

It was the giddiness.

I don't know if that was  symptom or the cure. I can't safely say that he was the cure for that. Meds didn't work. I was supposed to buy a different set but I didn't really have the time to buy it. I had forgotten all about and then boom, today of all days, six days before my 27th birthday, blue day one for 2012.

I had hoped to get my reproductive system working normally, that is why I moved to a company that had medical benefits. But then shortly after attending and listening attentively, I found that they didn't cover the things that I needed. Or maybe I just haven't read the booklet as well as I should have.

Still, it gave me a bit of piece of mind. I am still under a lot of stress at work now. Mostly it is self-inflicted and I want to continue to improve to make the coaching and the effort of the people who helped me get to this level all worth it. I mean, I studied units in education. The only way that a teacher can feel better about a student is if that student does better than the teacher or at least doesn't become a an embarrassment. So far, my level is 42-70. My maximum comes with a lot of luck and a lot of ra's. Still from 25-37 that is a pretty big leap, almost twice as much. Still. I hope that I continue to learn how to shorten my talk time and get better at making decisions for my accounts. This all sounds greek to those who are not in my line of business, but I am sure some do.

Going back. I am not really that equipped to go to the beach or be unemployed if I don't get confirmed or regularized. So I am thinking that I need to ask for some help from friends who actually know how to handle their money. What works for them and for my who make less than what they earn and have more expenses than they do since I live on my own and can't cook (not allowed where I live and can't cook without burning everything). My rent eats up most of my money and that is just fine. Having my own space is bliss. Except my bliss is full of clutter.

I am thinking that this, the blue days has nothing to do with the giddiness. The giddiness I got from my new crush is a manifestation of the prayers Chinese lucky charm grandma placed on the charm she gave me. It's not that I don't believe in that, but it's made me significantly less stressed. I also go to church more often now. I live so near one anyway. No, no masses yet but I go there to light a candle to pray for his and his co-soldiers' safety in their area and his friends too. I write prayers of thanksgiving and petitions for things and people that I am grateful for as well as things and people that I am hopeful  for. Then there is the writing these blogs almost everyday. Some days I don't because hello nothing really happens at work that I can write about and I really don't want to document any negative thoughts or negathrons. Since as per Chinese lucky charm grandma said to only surround myself with positivity.

I noticed however that I work best when running against a negative statistic. Meaning if I am at the pits, I tend to be more competitive, not with everyone else like some people I know but with myself. I don't know if this is what people call self-motivated. I call it personal goals. I don't care if others are better than me or that I am doing better than others. All I want to do is to learn new things that would ease my work and make me like it better. I find that learning new things is my thing.
For example, today I learned how to say “Mahilig ka bang magbasa ng libro?” [Do you like/enjoy reading books?] in Ilocano. According to my father, it is “Naayat ka aya nga agbasa iti libro?” [Na-a-yat ka a-ya nga ag-ba-sa i-ti lib-ro?] Before I only know yes - “wen” and “You are handsome” - “Nag gwapo ka” and a few other lines that I don't want to write here since this is a wholesome blog entry. Still there is one that I like the most, [Ay-a-ya-ten-ka] which is “Ay ayaten ka.” - “I love you.” in the Ilocano dialect. My father is from Angadanan in Isabela so he's half-Ilocano from my grandpa's side and half-Batanguenyo from my grandma's side. I am thinking that my dad's Batanguenyo side might not be the one whom I find appealing since compared to my uncle's and the men I have dated from that half of him, had fallen from the pedestal. They tend to not be the perfectly imperfect guy I want. Maybe it's the Ilocano side of my father that actually made him better than the rest of the men who courted my mother at that time.

Perhaps that theory would have more weight if I had more exposure to them. Still I want to learn Ilocano. I hope there would be a book or an interesting person who can do that with me. Still he doesn't seem to want to do it. *rolls eyes upward*

The thing that he doesn't know about me, is that I am either relentless or easily bored. He can run away and never speak to me again but that won't stop me from liking him. He doesn't have to like me back and I don't even need reciprocation. What people don't understand from recovering hopeless romantics is that were can live with the thirst for love for many many many moons.

But once we find a different watering hole to go to and search for, no amount of splashing us with the old well's water would make us go back.

Still *looks around * I think I really need to make time to clear up my room's mess. I think the energy in my room is blocked that is why I am getting sicker. But after drinking the co-amoxiclab and the cough meds they gave me at the clinic I have stopped coughing excessively.

I got my Value Creation score today. It's meets. I am thinking that I need to do that same for my life. Make it a metric for my life. To make it better. Start with my PP scores that is following policies and procedure. Then make enough but not too much Connections with customers which would be family, friends and new people. Then value creation, make the right kinds of decisions so that I would have more good things happen to me and do more things in the limited time that I have between work and rest.

This weekend I have to go to a wedding, I am sure I would be a photographer/fat girl who is still single but already going to be 27 in several days time. Then I have to attend a funeral on Sunday. Yes, there is a wedding and a funeral. It's bizarre, I know but nevertheless that is my weekend. I would not but anything on Friday when I have to be with Her Royal Highness with the Third Prince when we go to Divi. I have to buy just one pair of Hello Kitty glasses for my sister (her star city day is gone forever since there is a funeral to attend on Sunday) and a gift for someone at work. I don't need anything else, except maybe rainy day shoes and dvds. But unlike the time we went there for my JD (china tablet) I don't plan any big expenditures. I need to remember that I make a third of what Her Royal Highness does. And she can shop enough for the both of us. Though she claims to be only needed to find a single dress. Surely we would visit her favorite shoe store first and her brother is coming so that might lead to some other guy stuff hunting. I am looking forward to finding out where I can buy goth-themed thing since I have loved that since my ma-luk days.

So I won't be able to clean my room. But I have to remember to have my clothes washed. I am thinking that perhaps it would be a better idea to just bring my clothes home for washing. Still that would require carrying them and I am too darn lazy. Still, it's more economical. So I am thinking that I could just do that this once. I have to warn the new maid. She might faint from exhaustion.

I am going to meet up with my friends J and A on the 11th of June. I wonder if we have work on the 12th. I hope not so I could spend the day chatting with them from the night of the 11th to as late as we can. But Makati is no Elbi, in the latter we can sit in the grass and chat away the hours. In Makati, it's a little less laid-back and more expensive. I told them to aid me with saving and money handling tips. Then I would bring my cosmo and my witty mind full of things I did in my shady life to help them fire up their already cozy lives with their beloveds. That's what crazy single friends are for, right? Besides, we haven't met up since one of us became a geisha, I mean went to Japan. I am sure Ate J is rocking Nihon. But I really wish I can visit there.

I swear I am going to name my daughter Sakura, damn the naruto references. She's going to be a flower and that's that. Or if I don't have kids, I can name my dog that. ;-) Depends on what life I would have, that of a spinster or a wifey.

Still right now, my worries are little. I still have a lot of stuff on my 26 things to do for my 26th year that I didn't get to do like make YOBO 4 onwards script. Yes, Norby I have not forgotten, just haven't gotten around to writing it. I am thinking that I should write it like a story then have him interpret it in the comics. Because I think of the format but I draw a blank. But the plot points are in my head. They have been swimming there for the longest time. Way too long if you ask Norby.

I will revisit my list, transfer some to my 27 things to do on my 27th year. Then By God, I am doing those things. Not vauge things, like the ones I wanted to put my my 365 days of 2012 that I never really got to finish and list down or do (though some of them I am working on). I think I can do better with just 27 things to do.

Number one on that list

2011 : Big Bang Highs and Lows

No, I am not going to spazz out about Big Bang again. So read on.

You know how bloggers do a highlight reel of their year, I am not of sound mind to do that right now. Five days before 2012, my future is unsure. It's even more unsure than if was last year when E-lamp Ortigas closed up.

I am just going to try to wing this and try to remember as much as I can.

January - I attended two weddings. I almost caught the bouquet in one and I got gartered (yet again).

February - A lot of love (or at least I believed so at that time) was swirling around during this time. Watched Elbipie 14 and met Ico who I thought was Paulo at that time.

March - Diana "Haller" passed away. T_T

April - Nothing much happened here too. Summer was a bit of a dud since my grandfather couldn't go out with us. Wrote support blog for PEBA 2011.

May - Mom's birthday. My birthday. Missed going home for the month-end festival.

June - Eiga Sai. Reina's Secret Homecoming project. Went to Anawagin with JI Reina and Fried

July - End of an Era for Harry Potter

August - Grandfather passed away.

September - Dad's birthday/ Oppa Bear and Angel's Wedding(? - I wonder why I didn't remember)

October - Broke up with Ico. Given Grace in UPLB. 2LT JD Khe died in Mindanao

November -Nanorimo (failed) & Cinema One

December - PEBA 2011 (Nokia 2nd place). Sendong. Leave Spicus.

This year was fun, full of adventures and high tides as well as low tides. I learned a lot about settling for less and caution.

I just hope that I get the call I am waiting for from JPM&C so I can start the year right. I need to remember not to go out without a jacket lest I catch something.

I am clearing out my locker tomorrow and hopefully getting all the data that I have in my computer tomorrow. There are a lot of things I would leave behind. But I guess that things would look up next year. I got a call from someone from Ayala about a writing gig in one of their companies (no specific information about it). But I don't know if I can handle working in QC since I live in Makati.

I am taking my mom's electric burner by next year. I was 2k to my person, God knows what I can get from my backpay. I am yet to get my CoE and my ITR. I was under the weather for a couple of days.

I just hope that things would look up next year. I have a lot lined up and my 365 things list is not year complete. There are a few things I want to put in it. So I should revisit it.

How about you? If 2012 is the last year in the Mayan calendar and it is indeed the end of the world, what would you do to make it worthwhile?

How To Survive a (Batangas) Family Reunion

I sense many people I know have Christmas blues. It's almost similar to birthday blues and PMS weepy days only there is (for Filipinos) the added pressure of family reunions.

I read this article in Yahoo about how to survive family reunions and it made me shiver in the realization that a) I am newly single, b) I am newly resigned and c) I am still 20 kgs overweight. I am a mark. An easy one at that.

This weekend is not going to be fun. People are going to tell me to loose weight. They would berate me to give their children gifts or when I will have children. Or will ask why yet again there is a black box that needs to be checked as to why my relationship crashed and burned.

So in leu of my love for lists (seriously if you are a regular reader you would know this about me) here is my Family Reunion Survival list (Christmas Edition)

1. Never be too defensive.

The more you deny something or get enraged about something the more people would rib you about it. So just make sure you do not snap at anyone.

It's best to avoid wine when stressed. In Vino Veritas. You don't want to lash out or tell your relatives how blue your 2011 has been. You have to remember that you have to see these people in the next family event. Misery might like company but remember that your family are elephants. They never forget.

2. Diversion Cousin

There is always someone with a worse life story than you. There has to be. Ask the person you are talking to about said person and surely they would love to give you the tidbits.

3. Do not fall for trap questions.

"He seems like a nice guy, doesn't he?" is something I hear people say about someone's new bf (who just got introduced to the family). Be careful of the follow-up curve ball to the gut, "How about you, when are you going to introduce your boyfriend to us para makaliskisan?" (later part means so they can check him out)

I admit to trying to be as non-defensive as I can. But sometimes I just snap at them.

Scenario:

Older relative: Where is your boyfriend?
Me: (on a good day) I don't have one (po).
Older relative: (pulls me towards group of men drinking half of whom I do not know) This is my Pinay, she's from UP.

*feels like I am being bartered* *makes joke about liking women after older relative leaves* *some pervert would still like that and I would give him stink eye*

Me: (after being asked that more than five times often by the same person) I killed him already.
Older relative: *silent for like a milisecond* That's too bad.
(repeat end part of the previous situation)

4. Beware of the "matchmaker" relative

There is always one and you can't be ashamed to have one. They think they know you even though they barely see you and they know someone who is just perfect for you.

I am 26. I have been "introduced" to so many family friends that are either not my type, looks like a pervert or is just wrong for me just because I never introduce my bfs to the family. I am very traditional, introductions to my family is a big deal. No man has passed that barrier so far.

When single I do these: (check if you have done it)

___Pretended to like women. *not my proudest moment, sorry lesbian and gay friends*
___Said I am seeing someone in the big city
___Talk about my disgusting habits and lack of wifely abilities
___Talk about how I like men who have bigger dicks (men with small friends would do the "it's the motion of the ocean" excuse)
___Make rude jokes
___Pretend I hate sports and all sweat related activities (so not true I love sports and hunky sweaty men)
___Tell them that I dated a gay guy and that everything I learned about sex I learned from a gay guy so I would never date a homophobe *this usually backfires since I have a tendency to talk dirty without using dirty words - usually a good flirting tool*
___Tell them that I want someone who is like my dad (responsible, NEVER cheats or lies to my mother, hardworking, funny, a great cook, very romantic, a great father - translation Go Electra Complex on them wannabees) My dad is pretty well-known as a great guy in our community and a wonderful husband and father so men who are lazy or the anti-thesis of men like my dad tend to be wary of daddy's girls like moi.

5. Be the family photographer

I love the fact that I am the family photographer. Why? I have a decent diversion move to make people stop interrogating me.

I either call out "Picture!" and people come rushing to pose or I would say "Less talk more posing!"

Filipinos are camwhores, use that to your advantage.

6. Wear flattering clothes.

It doesn't matter if you gained weight this year, never let them see you in your jammies, these people you love and loathe. ^.^

Fashion is always a good topic to use to divert the older ladies attention.

7. Pick on somebody your own size

It's better to hang out with members of your family who are of the same age bracket. If they are the ones who cause you teeth gritting beause they lives are just oh-so-perfect and you can't handle their blabbering, do the exact opposite.

Do not compare your lives to them. Yours might not be as documented, good on paper or straight cut as theirs, but it's your life, right? Surely it's yours to live. If you want to, you can get inspired with their success or lovelives. This is the best time to ask cousins you like to hook you up with their friend or husband/bf's cool friend. Who knows, right?

8. Eat light and don't linger, mingle!

If you are going to a family Christmas party like I am, make sure not to eat like there is no tomorrow. You have to remember that there is New Year's Eve as well. If you are going to eat a lot at the actual eating time, make sure not to eat too much throughout the day.

The thing with the holiday munchies, people never stop eating or putting things in front of you. I know it's the holidays but this is not your last meal. So do not put a mountain of food on your plate.

It's a also a good idea to not just sit in one table *see #5 for a reason to move around* and make sure to catch-up with everyone, even the cousin you have hated since she took your favorite scrunchy in elementary school or the weird family friend who insists that you call him uncle *see Bridget Jones' Diary for reference*

In the Philippines, especially in my hometown, Christmas is family time. So spend time with yours.

9. Get sound advice.

This is a tricky way to make people talk about themselves or divert them from grilling you about your lack of work/lovelife/children/whateverthingthatpersonthinksisnecessaryforhappiness.

It's a way to shut up those troll relatives who can only see the bad sides of your life and doesn't know how to celebrate your achievements, like the fact that you got yourself out of a relationship that was making you an emotional eater.

People who mean well or have gone through the same problem are more capable of giving you sound advice. Be careful not to snarl when they say "Tingnan mo ang pinsan mo..." (Look at your cousin...). Do not tune them out. Make mental notes. Do not take the criticism too personally. There might be some nuggets of wisdom here and there. Sure there are thinly veiled insults too. But if what they are saying is true, can you really argue with them?

Take the snide remarks and pokes so you can get the constructive criticism too.

"I'll think about it."; "That sounds like a good idea, I'll see if I can use that to (get what you want)." ; "Thanks for the advice. If I need anymore, I know who to talk to." are good sentences and comments that can help your relative (usually an elder one) feel like you appreciate their concern. And most of them are really genuinely so.

10. Easy on the (Eggnog) Tagay.

People drink a bit more than they should when there is a party. And most of them want to be drunk because they can't handle their family when they are sober.

Just make sure you do not drink to the point of no return. For someone like me who has no filtering system, I would rather grit my teeth and stay sober. At least when I am done, I can blog about what happened. Blacking out and freaking out at a family event, any party or the streets of your hometown is not in tune with the Christmas spirit.

If you have other tips to share, be sure to write them at the comment box. ^.^

Alive-est by Sam Davidson : Anawangin Adventure

I think the boat ride to the large island we were supposed to visit made me feel the most alive. We were in a tiny boat that fit the four of us and a boatman. The water was salty and hitting us in the body and face because the swells were huge from the rainy weather. It didn't rain during that time but the waves were too big for larger boats to take us to the three islands. We ended up just going to one island but every time the boat went up a wave and then landed back down I did a whoop. It was like being in a jungle log jam and space shuttle at the same time.

I think that I definitely need to travel more. I plan to visit there with an waterproof camera so that I can actually take a picture of the rocks. It's very beautiful there. And probably we would go there during the not so rainy season. The place had the calm and the storm in it. I think I really need to get out of the city more. But I have to work harder so that next time I would actually have the money to pay my way.

We were ninja riding the waves since they were too big to swim against or with. We got sand everywhere, we almost drown in the foam, we saw each other go under and sputter. We laughed and we found that despite all the things we had to do come Monday, there were Saturdays to ninjaride or lazysurf in the ocean.

25 things I learned from MY father

This Reader's Digest article inspired me to write my own 25 things I learned from my father.

25 things I learned from my TATAY

1. Don't touch the railings and walls that you pass by. If you are careless and reckless, you will end up with more than dirty hands.

2. Good honest and funny men make the best husbands.

3. Put the alcohol in your belly and not in your head.

4. Respect is earned and not easily regained when lost.

5. Criticize people who are older or more powerful away from earshot.

6. Be a good son/daughter and your children would love you.

7. Small things can show love. Bringing slippers to a tired and busy man can warm his heart.

8. You will always be a kid in your father's heart.

9. Father and Son is a great song.

10. They made great music two decades ago and no amount of Lady Gaga and boybands can undo that.

11. Money is not the only condition for happiness. But it wouldn't hurt to mary a hardworking man with a stable job.

12. Not all men are cheaters.

13. Sports is not just for boys.

14. Read when you need to fall asleep easily.

15. Look on both sides before you cross the street.

16. Don't leap before you look.

17. Invest on good pairs of shoes.

18. Go to church and be thankful.

19. Mustaches are not for everybody.

20. A man's dignity is priceless.

21. Stay positive.

22. Eat your vegetables.

23. Laugh often. But don't treat your life as a joke.

24. Cook with love.

25. Break bread and chink glasses often with people who are important to you. No matter how busy you are have one meal with your family preferably dinner.

13 going 30

By 30, you should have:

  1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come. (check and check)
  2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family. (I rent a tiny ass place so no to this)
  3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour. (I have a total of six dresses. White, 2 black, 1 red and white, 1 green, and 1 blue and white. None of which are perfect for this situation)
  4. A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying. (hate purses but I have a handbag - big deal since I am a backpack person/need to buy that suitcase and that umbrella)
  5. A youth you’re content to move beyond. Check!
  6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age. (Check! I might need to leave some parts out for proprieties sake)
  7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it. (I need to pay off my debts and then save)
  8. An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you. (I need to work on the last two)
  9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded. (check!)
  10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry. (Check!)
  11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.
  12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it. (Check! Laptop.)
  13. The belief that you deserve it.
  14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30. (uhm, okay. I will work on this)
  15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better. (nope.nope.Does friendships and family count? Yes, I know. I will work on me first then on these, okay?)

By 30, you should know:

  1. How to fall in love without losing yourself. (Okay, this is hard so I will work on it.)
  2. How you feel about having kids. (If I can have some, I will. If I can't, I am good with it.)
  3. How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship. (check, check and check!)
  4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
  5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
  6. The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.
  7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
  8. How to take control of your own birthday. (this will never happen. My birthday is the day before the festival in my hometown. I can never control this.)
  9. That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.
  10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
  11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
  12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.
  13. Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
  14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
  15. Why they say life begins at 30. (I wouldn't know till then, wouldn't I?)

Come to think of it, I did quite good. Half is better than a quarter. And the fun thing is that I learned most of the stuff just last year. Who said 25 is a quarter crisis? Once you get past it, it's actually a very rewarding time in one's life. Well, I  won't be 26 until this May, so I will work on greening all the other stuff on this list. ^^ Though #15 should have is harder than the rest. T_T, I hope I can get that crossed out before the deadline. ^^ Aja, fighting!~

I am a Self-Knowing Self-Improving Extrovert

I took the 43 Things Personality Quiz and found out I'm a
Self-Knowing Self-Improving Extrovert

I have always had a life list. I call them my CRAZY LIST and my GOAL LIST.
My crazy list are secret weird things that I want to remove from my bucket list. They make life fun and exciting.
My Goal list makes me feel like I have a direction. They are things that are life-changing and what I want to highlight my life as a person. ^^

This coming 2011 it would include one of the things in the checklist in this quiz:

Fall in love with the right person. ^^
