Everyday is Mother's Day

Disclaimer: Blog entry made on actual Mother's day. Did not go online.

Mother's day in our house is on May 7th, not the second Sunday of May like what every female-targeting advertising announced it to be. It's simply because that is my Inay's birthday. This year I went home for the weekend before our mother's day since her birthday landed on a Monday. My little sister and I joined my parents for my dad's company outing. I had to sleep in a tent and give up sleep all day Saturday to being in a tent room and not being able to lounge around in comfort. But I think my parents liked it there and there is a chance I would have to do this again. They didn't wake me up for the bonfire which I was waiting for. They ended up with blurry night pictures but they had fun while I rested so I guess it's win-win.

My mom, as most of my blogger friends and readers already know is a superwoman for me. And I am not even kidding how many kids she has raised apart from me and my brother. But this is a common occurrence in the province, the most rooted and stable aunt ends up bringing up kids in lieu of grandmothers not being available. Still at 26, I don't feel like a good daughter just yet. I am still about 20% of the woman my mother was when she was 26. She was already a mother, married and has a job that she kept all the way to her 50's. I am working towards getting confirmed in my new job, that means regularized for us all, I am still working towards self-improvement and perhaps spinsterhood (which I don't dread really with kind of  men that have been churning up around me) and I don't really know if I would be able to have children in the future. But still I would never ever settle for anything else than the kind of love and relationship my parents found in each other. They say that it is hard to put a family together is yours was broken, then they haven't seen the girls who struggle to find the man who would fit the bill and give them the love their parents have. It's harder when you know that the standard set by your father is too high.

On mother's day we give flowers, thank you letters and gifts to our mother. I gave my mom two packs of babyruth. ^.^ I had originally thought of giving my sister money to buy my mom something on the actual international mother's day but I forgot. Nevertheless, I will make it up to her by going to Star City on the 27th to help her watch my cousins and sister go on the rides. I am not big on heights and would end up taking pictures and watching their bags that is for certain but I wouldn't mind except that I have to go to work at 9pm so I would have to sleep in then take the rest of my time going to work.

In my life I have met different kinds of mothers and have seen and felt different kinds of love from them. There are those who are practical mothers, who show their love in teaching and nagging. There are those smotherers who spoil their children to the point that their child needs to rebel to be able to find a semblance of self or end up being exactly like them only towards their own relationships. There are those who are highlighters. They arrive on graduations, weddings, and major life events and have to be away, by choice or preference, from their children and family most of the time. Then there are those who are ghosts, they are there physically but can't be reached out on to raise their children or to even look at them. But then there are the HëirMöther,Stamom's and Dragon ladies. They are the extreme versions of carino brutal. The first one would insist that there is only one kind of person that is valuable in the world and that is the class from which they belong and would control their child from being close to anyone else. The Stamom would make sure their child follows just one way of living and the values that they must follow are only those that are in their mother's book of living and values. Lastly the Dragon Ladies would make their children the perfect prodigy to the point that their social skills are lacking being of lack of interaction with humans as supposed to instruments and learning devices.

No, these classifications are not to lower down or belittle these kinds of mothers, it's just to enumerate the kinds that they seem on the surface. But underneath all the tags is the heart that would love from womb to tomb. Sometimes we forget that our mothers were women and people apart from us before we came to be. We only know a side of them and not all. As I grew older, I found that it was easier to understand my mother and to admire her for all that she has done and all that she is doing. I realized that in order to find a man who would hold me close in his sleep and would be my life partners for decades and decades I would have to be a woman after my mother. It was not the search for the perfectly imperfect man that was difficult. It was being a woman who would be able to draw that kind of man's attention towards me that was extremely hard. My mother and I are not the same, though her love has a compartment in my heart. I tap into it whenever I feel like life is not as great as I had hoped or when I am feeling exceptionally vulnerable. Then there is that Inay folder in my head where all the recordings of the nagging...este...life lesson video and audio files are stored for me to play whenever I am thinking of whether or not I should do something. The sound quality and the video quality are not as good as it was but my hearing is better and my inner eye makes me understand the message better.

What I learned from my parents can't fit in a book let alone a time blog.

But I would believe that when I have my own child, if ever I do and have a husband, if ever he gets around to meeting me, I would apply the things that I learned from my mother.

1.      When really mad do not speak. Sometimes the words you would say wounds both side and leaves scars that would never go away.
2.      When really happy laugh and smile. Share your happiness with your friends and family and you would soon realize that one small thing like a new pair of shoes and your daughter in a dress had made ripples of good energy.
3.      Be honest in the way you do your work and you would be rewarded with a trust that can not be shaken.
4.      Love like you are not asking for anything in return or even thinking of it. Because the love that you send out into the world, has a way of coming back like a boomerang.
5.      Always believe that you can do it and if your self-confidence is not enough, don't leave it to chance, get some back-up and pray.

There are more, like I said, that I learned from mothers and women who are about to be mothers. But someday, even if I never become one, I would continue to apply the things my mother taught me. I just wish that one of these days I would fulfill my own dream of being able to help out at home. One girl shoes step at a time I suppose.

To all the mothers out there, you are THE WOMAN! Blessed are we your children for the love that you gave us and the lessons you continually remind us. Thank you for the support and the sacrifice that you have given and done for us. We might not always be that good at expressing our gratitude but let it be known that without you, there wouldn't be a me. A gazillion thanks for all that you are and all that you have made us, your kiddos out to be.

UPLB FEB FAIR BUG 2012

*singing* Take me back to Elbi...

I always loved being a groupie and getting my picture taken with grassroots bands and liking them even before others do. ^.~ I believe I was a hippy groupie in one of my past lives. ^.~

I would never get tired of going back to Elbi and next year, when I have more time to go on VL, I would plot my vacation to fall on Febfair. To hell with traveling to new places and such. But the past is a destination too. And once time travel is possible, I know the dates and years I would revisit would take me back to Elbi every time. I want to take pictures of that time, never to interfere. ^.^ I won't go Ericka Strange and undo my past mistakes.

Because if not for wild days in college and heartbreaks, I wouldn't be who I am now and I would be able to enjoy my self-proclaimed training to be an adult. It's not true you can't have the best of both worlds, still you have to remember that two people can exist in both the past in their heart and walk forward to the future to make the present part of the past.

Anyway, come wind or high water, alone or otherwise, I would go back to visit and see Elbi with eyes that knows that past and ignores the present. But I would enjoy ribbing the idiots who wear heels in the mountains without a need for it like perhaps, one of those crazy Thursday Elbi Nights.

And this time, I am sure I am cured completely of my February bug, no more picking up boys in a bar and trying to fall in love with the idea of love. I am an adult now.

MIG AYESA IN MANILA JUNE 2012 : Fangirl 3.0

I just love fangirling about real artists. Sorry I might be all over Korean singers lately making fanfics and crap but the love I have (my friend and I have) for Mig Ayesa is never going to be eclipsed by those idol groups.

So as usual this fangirl moment started with a facebook message.

Thanks Toni I never got the autographed thingy but I hope I can see him in person!!! That would be so worth it!!! I could just die and go to fangurl heaven!

Then I went to the link and saw this

I have time to save! And buy a super camera! Or at least a phone that can take pictures and videos and all that jazz!!!

And I almost died of happiness because I realized I would have time to save up for it. And that my friend would just die because she won't be able to see him. I promise to borrow a digital camera or have one of my own by then, Reina.

Once again Mig saved me on a super bad depressing day since I was really freaked out about the rape-murder case of Given Grace from UPLB.

My kerfag (korean idol fangirl) friends are going to a viral concert tomorrow for Super Junior. But they can't hold a candle to our MIG A! Yey!

2012 can be the end of the world just as long as it doesn't happen in June. K, Lord? Thanks.

xoxo,

The UK’s entry to this year’s festival promises to once more showcase excellence in British cinema with the film Never Let Me go starring Kiera Knightley and Andrew Garfield.
Never Let Me Go is a film about Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, who spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

45 DAYS Ninya NO RICE CHALLENGE

Last time I checked I was 77 kgs. I know that I am bigger than that now. I came from being a 10 or 11 to being a size 14. I came from wearing medium shirts to double XL shirts. I wore 28 to 30, now I am wearing pants that I have shunned before because there were huge. I am able to breathe in a 36. But that is with pants that do not need to be buttoned near the belly button. Thank God, mommy pants are no longer fashionable.

Still looking for a dress for Angel's wedding has been a pain. I went around with my friend Ianne and we found a dress that was 3L (triple Large or whatever that means) and a matching pair of boots on sale.

We went to a sale stop for my favorite Folded and Hung where I got a couple of my old white dress and my sassy yet simple little black dress. I found a dress that fit me well...ton kilograms ago. The thing was it was light, tasty and showing all my bulges. So it was out. It was gray as well but it was nice...It cost 600php compared to the Cirle dress that was 1000. T_T, The shoes cost 950.

So I decided to just get my white and blue dress from storage and have my mom JRS it to my apartment since I can't go home any time soon.

Anyway, why the hell am I ranting about this.

I decided to do something either extremely idiotic or brilliant, depends on whether it's gonna work or not.

I decided to go on a 45 Days NO RICE challenge. I don't want to call it a diet because I have no plans to starve myself. I love food and according to people who tried to go on those diets and those who succeeded, cravings are worse when you deprive yourself of the satisfaction and sustenance.

I already know that I can handle the oatmeal alternative for three weeks. And I did lose weight noticeably because of it. Because of my skin allergies, my doctor said I need to stay away from uber fried food, chicken, and "malansa" food.

So I am thinking of combining the banana alternative I did before with the oatmeal alternative.

I need to save some money as well so I think this whole cutting down the random binges, excessive snacking and sugar rush cravings would do me some good. I need to buy A & D a gift and I am canvassing for something ornamental like a caricature portrait of them Koreanovela style, a couple tee designed by me (might be cheaper but I have to ask for Deo's shirt size and canvass that). I am thinking his shirt would have Made Each in front and Angel would have For Other. When they wear it together it would read, Made For Each Other. Or I would make a pun love shirt that read Through Thick Or Thin. Deo's would say Through Thin and Angels would say Or Thick. ^.^ But I am scared Deo would slaughter me.

But my ultimate gift to Angel is being girly on her wedding. So I am putting up my hair in a half pony then another pony (don't know what it's called sorry) and I will try to deflate a bit (deflate talaga eh noh?) so I won't ruin their wedding pictures. I will have my eyebrows carved (carved talaga eh noh?) and I will try to put some make-up on before I fly off in a cab to get to their wedding that is finally going to happen 45 days from now.

Ergo the 45 day challenge.

Goals:

1) Do not look like a whale on A & D's wedding or at least make tummy less prominent. Otherwise tell people I am pregnant so they would shut up.

2) Save money to buy them a gift and not have money problems.

3) Save money by using Reina's bag pasalubong (moss green pretty bag) and wearing the dress I wore for Michael's wedding (Angel has not seen me in ANYTHING floral so I am sure she would appreciate it)

What do I need :

1) Oatmeal - flavored since I can't abide milk and blah flavors

2) Ham and Cheese sandwiches from Tina

3) microwavable container for oatmeal and other food

4) my Korean spoon (big)

5) Blue and white floral dress

6) new girly shoes (boots are out since the dress is a summery dress)

7) black leggings (to hide chismis) or pantyhose - note to self go to the store in Starmall where you got those cheap but nice ones

8) girdle panties (I ripped my old one please don't judge ^.^)

9) Self-control and happy thoughts

10) Help and support from the Kanin gang (that I won't eat rice with them for a while)

Meal Plan :

Workday Breakfast (eat at Spicus)
- Ham and Cheese/Tuna/Canadian Bacon sandwhich
- tiny cup of coffee

Workday Lunch (eat at Spicus)
- oatmeal/banana (alternative to rice)
- viand (not greasy, fishy or chicken)

Workday Dinner (eat at FIRE or at home)
- oatmeal/banana
- viand (not greasy, fishy or chicken)

Weekend breakfast
- bread
- peanut butter or something else (not chocolate spread)

Weekend Lunch
- oatmeal/banana
- viand (not greasy, fishy or chicken)

Weekend Dinner
- oatmeal/banana
- viand (not greasy, fishy or chicken)

*no more water plus
*water water water
*try not to smoke

Exercise plan

1) sit-ups (if I can get enough moolah for gym then I will do it with a machine = more effective for me)

- Start with 20, more to increasing 5 every two days to see if I can handle it.
Caution : Do not overdo this
Goal: 50 to 100 sit-ups

2) jog/brisk walking

- I have been having problems with my foot lately so I don't want to force it. But I would want to jog and walk in the Ayala Triangle after work if it isn't raining. If it is, I can always walk slowly with an umbrella.
- If I can get enough moolah for gym in Sept (need 3k) I would do this on the bike or the treadmill

3) Take stairs when available

- Of course I won't take 33 floors worth of stairs. *Or maybe I would. But I don't plan to do this and kill myself in the process. Though it might be a good idea, right?

4) TRO on cigs

- You get my drift.

5) Wake up early

- So I can walk to the bus stop, then get on one, get off near SM and walk to Tycoon. Walk walk walkathon

Grocery List:

1) Microwavable containers
2) oatmeal honey hazelnut/apple/chocolate
3) Nissin Wafer
4) Fitness Flakes and Fruit (optional)
5) Century Tuna
6) Can opener (if I don't find my old one)
7) Water heater (for oatmeal)

To buy:

1) Girly shoes
2) Wedding Gift for Angel and Deo
3) Shawl for the dress - or use the one I bought from Chloe and Andrea
4) girdle panties
5) hair pin
6) Make-up (might just get the ones from my mom)

So there you go. I would put this thing into gear today. Thinking about this made me want California Maki last night. I bought a cold and not so nice foursome from Tokyo Tokyo. I felt the specialty maki beacon me but I realized my tongue has decided to help me out this time. I guess, like the rest of me, my tongue has decided that enough is enough.

Wish me luck!

But please, no selling of ANY weight lose products and what not. I really don't feel like ingesting anything that I have no confidence in. I was an SEO writer before, so I know how REAL those testimonials are.

Ya, dig?

ADOPT A CAT now!

To all my cat-loving friends, feel free to re-post and send out the information and let's try to find homes for the kitties that they have. If I see another roadkill, I might just loose it.

When I saw this I suddenly missed Trese (our white cat at my parents' house) My brother got the cat from my Lolo Teng who is a super animal lover. He was worried that the cat won't survive because of the aggressive siblings it had. Trese couldn't get any milk because he got pushed out of the way a lot. So we (meaning my brother Alvin a marine biologist now certified animal lover) had to dropper feed him milk for a while since he couldn't and wouldn't drink milk from the saucer. It sounds like animal torture but it was necessary for him to survive. The foot of the stairs became his temporary home. To date, he is the only cat we took care of INSIDE the house. My mom would have fits about the cat hair sometimes but she knew that it's a good thing what we were doing. No one was supposed to play with him too much because he was way too malnourished and my mom made sure that the other kids didn't play with him (you know how kids are and there were a lot of them in our area - relatives living next to each other). It paid off because as Trese grew up he was strong enough to live outside of the house (cats can be very independent once they want to be) and he pretty much became the CAT in the HOOD. ^.^ He would go home covered in soot or looking like a Dalmation (he is purely white so gray makes him look like that) And I can only imagine the mischief that he got himself into.  He has a brother named Azul who came after. It was hard to distinguish them from each other coz Azul, who has blue eyes obviously, was purely white. But perhaps because he grew up in the hands of humans, Trese has more respect for the humans around him. He didn't scratch them and still rubbed our legs from time to time. I worry about him sometimes since he gets around a lot.

My friends had cats too. Some of them had sad stories of their moms bagging their cats and throwing them away. My friend didn't like her mother or talked to her mom for a bit because of that. It's great to have pets but sometimes if you can't keep them off your car, it's a problem. But still, I would have asked someone to keep them instead of throw them away.

They say that when you have a dog, you are the master. If you have a cat, the cat is God. ^.^ It's kinda true. I never recall telling the cat where to pee though. I think my mom made that easy for the cat to remember. No catnip or cat litter for us. Trese learned where to poop and pee eventually. Though cat poop and pee is not a fun smell. Not. At. All. There was this girl who hid a stray cat in her dorm room during freshman year. Dear God! I had to inhale before I came in their room and exhale when I got out.

Still, I love these ancient guardians of the underworld. Except black cats. When I see one, I am sure to get three really bad things happen after. They say that it's superstition and you attract what you fear. But I say, if you haven't experienced it yourself, don't judge me. ^.^ I always wanted to have a black cat but seeing that I have a bad luck with taking care of animals, I might not be the best person to have a cat. I picked up a stray that was left behind by his mom too. EDSA, was the name. He lived for at least 23 days, I think. He didn't make it. Reina found him dead under the stairs of our apartment. I think he was way too young that's why he didn't make it without his mom. I fear he got bitten by the large palengke rats that came to and fro the first floor. But I figured then that I didn't just kill plants, I was not meant to be a master of any pet.

But if you think you can do a better job that I can, go right ahead. Adopt a cat now. Don't wait for Christmas to do something good.

Wala kayo sa Lolo Celo ko

I knew I was ready. I knew before even my mom told me but I still have the same flaw I have before. I bounce back easily but I repress sadness or loneliness and try to rely on my uncanny ability to lift my spirit. After ranting for a bit or doing something useful with the extra energy, I believe that I am over something. But I never am. I get those small internal emo bursts as I call them those pangs of sadness that people feel when they think of someone who is not around anymore.

I know my grandpa is with his beloved wife now. After so long but it hurts to know that he won't be around to attend my wedding, or see MY kids.

I teared up (my version of bawling) while editing the pictures so I can upload them later on Facebook. I am working on a video for the 40th day. I can't make it as soon as I did Utoy's (tito Dante) because his was sudden and the reason why the video was put together was that it was my way of adjusting to his death. With my grandpa we were waiting for him to take his rest.

Family man
The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.  ~John Vance Cheney

I remember telling my sister early this year to make the lettering for Happy 80th Birthday Lolo Celo better. And I am glad that we did fix it. No one thought it would be his last birthday party. Not even one of us thought that by August we would've lost him. He cries on his birthdays...every time. I think this is why most of his kids are no afraid to cry when they are overwhelmed by happiness.

Januaries would not be the same. Augusts would never be uneventful in my family ever again. My mom misses taking care of her dad. I think she would be zoning in on her kids again. *feeling the pressure now*

I gave the eulogy at his funeral. I was choked up and I couldn't read my notes. But I knew that everyone understood me and felt that he had a full life.

Like my mom said, *punas luha before resuming typing* at least we showed him we loved him up to the end.

On the act of Overacting

So there I was being told to check a picture online and I almost chocked when I saw it.

First I said "Fuck. They broke up." I know what those things meant. The first step in the JI Puno School of Getting over was DRASTIC HAIR CHANGE. My eyes popped out. I still can't remember the color he got that was like some green mossy thing. Still that was tame compared to this. He was a consultant in the matter.

Then when I saw it from another angle I said "SPUNKY!" and I had this urge to cut my hair. I was about to do so since I had the andalush to do it then I remembered that I am going to attend Angel's wedding on September 30th. So no to the haircut until then.

To all friends getting married after that, I will wear a suit to your wedding instead, k. Then I remembered something more important. I HAVE A BOYFRIEND. I can't go around looking like the boy that I secretly was. ^.^;

So there, I will go jogging once the rains let up and I have more time since I would free up my afternoons. It would help me lose weight, quit smoking, my reproductive system might wake up if I get some exercise, and so that I can get a little closer to my normal size and rock a spunky hairdo with it.

She said she loves it. And I know she does. I just hoped she hadn't spent so much on it in the beginning of the trip only to chop it all off. But for a girl who asks me for a reaction back in the days for just trimming her hair, she should have known I would be all tactless about it. And I was, I am sorry for being abrupt and sounding judgmental but I had a lot of things running in my head, her job, the people there and her mother. How would they react to it?

And then I realized I was pushing the stick further up my hole and so I pulled it out and said. "It'll grow back." then concluded, "This would make a great grandmom story someday."

"Alam mo ba apo, noong dalaga pa ako rakista talaga ako. Yang ahit ahit na yan luma na yan. Tingnan mo ito." produces hollographic form of the hair from the past "Ang lagay ay kala mo astig ka na, marami ka pang kakaining rice capsules." sabay rock-sign. ^.^

COH Sunday : Book Signing at Market! Market!

*FanGirl mode* I was late for the event (thank God I didn't promise to emcee or finish the video beforehand) but I was able to get one Sherine book, one Bernadette book, and four Yesha Lee books signed at the event.
It was too bad that the video Tinz made didn't play well and was a little malabo once it was projected. So I need to remember to install vlc on Lou's computer. And have a back-up in case my laptop doesn't work on the 23rd.

I will be the emcee for that one. I might have to wear a good outfit. I am thinking I would wear something that Reina gave me. ^.^ Then I would doll it up. I need to buy pants for the event or at least wear clean ones.

I got a baller freebie, pink round folding fans from the writers *I exchanged one for a green one without realizing it, it was a good thing She is so nice she let me ask for another one* I met Nhyl, another TOPper, Foo and Lou there while Yesha signed books. Miss B thanked me for the support and I had a lot of fun watching people giddy about pocketbooks as well.

I would replace book signings to crowded concerts. Fan or not, I am still a book lover first and foremost. I am actually thinking that I want to be one of those people from whom people ask for autographs. That would be a dream come true.

I ended up buying another Nora Roberts book when we got to Chapters and Pages. I am currently reading a two novel book named Truly Madly Manhattan. We all know that I love the idea and romanticism of that city.

I actually don't remember where that bookstore is. Now, if only I got Kuya Joseph's number. We'll I can just ask Ate Lou. She would be able to give me directions. We ate at Ineng's and I got free food!~ I ended up going home via Fort bus with a girl who said she also wanted to write. I told her to try TOP first then get fans and submit the novel to COH. I told her about the discipline behind the "writing time". I think she appreciated it. ^.^ I hope she is able to apply what I told her.

I just realized that I am extremely bad with names. T_T, And that I am kinda deaf. ^_^

They thanked me for my super support. They don't know at this rate, I am just a fan. If I was one of them, they would be blown away. ^.^ It's not a fangirl thing, it's a TOPper thing. It's a Pinaywriter thing to be this way.

Once I love someone, I am loyal. Unless they die or break my trust, they can rely on me forever. Otherwise, they can visit Dante's inferno all they want.

Freebies!!!

VIRGIN LABFEST 7

I want to watch it or at least buy a book that has the copy of the plays made from last year. Alam ko kasi nagrerelease sila ng copy the year after. Gusto ko ng copy ng play ni Mam Bucoy. Hindi ko kasi napanuod. Mabasa ko na lang sana.
Anyway, eto na Virgin Labfest 7 na. I saw the schedule here.
Manuod kayo kung me time at pera kayo. There is nothing that comes close to a live play, at least in my book. Kung me anda lang ako hinila ko na si Ico manuod nito. T_T, Hay, mahirap ang poor.

Eiga Sai 2011: The Japanese Film Festival - BANZAI !!!

I really hope I don't have part-time yet. If I do, I hope they give me a 7-11 schedule. I think I would be okay with that. I want to watch the 4PM screenings. See you there, tomodachi!
